The focus of my painting series “Humans” is the human body – mostly naked and without accessories – as the creation of a higher power. My vision is to show the human being in the field of tension between culture, politics and economy – often in a torn state. I emphasize the difficulty of developing freely in an enforced social, economic and political system.
The composition, colors and brushstrokes in my paintings have a strong symbolic character and underline the drama of the human condition. The umbrella term “Humans” encapsulates the broad spectrum of influences to which human life is exposed. However, the term itself has a rather dark connotation in this context. My attention is particularly drawn to the feminine gender, which has historically been depicted as weak and oppressed throughout the ages but has now, amidst a revolution, taken on a heroic stance.
